Newfoundland & Labrador

Newfoundland was the last province to join the Confederation of Canada.  It now also includes the portion of the mainland to the north-west of it known as Labrador.  Of all the provinces of Canada, it is the farthest to the east, on the north Atlantic Ocean.

In July/August of the summer of 2007 my wife and I traveled, in "3POD", our trusty 'Westy' van, along the west coast of the island of Newfoundland, over to Labrador, and on up along the coast to the town of Cartwright.   From there we took the ferry along the coast and through an inlet to Happy Valley / Goose Bay.   We then drove on through Churchill Falls, Labrador City, and down past the Quebec hydroelectric installations along the Manicuaguan River watershed to Baie Comeau on the north shore of the St. Lawrence.

Despite the 1,200 km of gravel road, most of it surprisingly good, it was a wonderful trip, and we learned much about life, past and present, in that area of Canada, and had an opportunity to view the many geographical wonders to be seen along the way.

(sorry, this site is still undergoing re-construction)
